Michelle and Alex’s Wedding Cake

It was a busy weekend at Sprinkles & Swirls. On Saturday, I created this 100+ serving 4 tier fondant covered cake for Michelle and Alex. The Aloha cake I made a couple of weeks ago was for their shower. Michelle loved a cake that was in the Confetti Cakes book by Elise Strauss. The leaves in the book were done in brown, but she wanted the leaves and scrolling on her cake in the bright pink color that matched her bridesmaid’s dresses. I changed the concept by doing all the scrolling in fondant instead of royal icing. It was a little more work, but I loved the results. The top two tiers were marble cake with vanilla buttercream, the second tier was red velvet with vanilla buttercream and the bottom tier was chocolate cake with peanut butter buttercream. I also made an additional sheet cake to feed the additional 70+ guests. Just a tip for the brides out there…to save some money, order sheet cakes to supplement your wedding cake if you have a lot of guests. The reception was at the Officer’s Club at the Navy Depot in Mechanicsburg. It is a really elegant venue for a reception with a wonderful staff. You don’t even have to be in the military to reserve the facility.
