A vibrant orange and damask 60th birthday cake

I had the honor of creating this very special 60th birthday cake for a very lovely lady. When I received the initial cake request I didn’t know who was ordering the cake. It just so happened that  while I was enjoying my favorite meal at Rice & Noodles in Lancaster, Vy (who is one of the owners) whispered to me that I was making her mom’s surprise birthday cake. I was so excited and we became quick friends after that.
Vy and her sister Alys had a specific vision in mind. Damask, black, orange (mom’s favorite color), chevron print and big orange peonies.

Whenever I create a peony, I always think of when I was in Savannah and learned how to
make them with Ron Ben Israel. It makes me smile. Investing in learning new skills
and techniques to become better at your art is so worth it. You can never know too much.
The cake flavors were a white almond cake with almond buttercream filling and white
almond cake with raspberry buttercream filling.
It’s funny how friendships happen. Vy saw a cake I did on a friend’s Facebook page and had me create her mom’s birthday cake. She makes the most beautiful macarons and I had the opportunity to share her beautiful creations at a recent photoshoot.
Be sure to stop by Rice & Noodles if you are in Lancaster. The food is absolutely delicious. I love the roasted pork over rice noodles and salad…soooo good. Try the french macarons too.
Happy birthday to Vy and Alys’s mom 🙂
